A Letter from the CEO

April marks my sixth month as the chief executive officer of NIADA.

In that time, working with the board of directors, we have restructured the staff, hired new staff leaders and adopted a strategic plan that will carry NIADA forward in service to our members.

As part of the strategic plan, the board adopted the following vision for the industry:

A robust, ethical and professional independent used vehicle market trusted by consumers.

The board also revised the NIADA mission statement:

Promote, educate and advocate for ethical independent automobile dealers and their consumers.

Everything we do from here will support our mission to accomplish our vision.

The board and staff are working together to make the NIADA Certified Pre-Owned program and NIADA Dealer 20 Groups work for more dealers. We’re working to add more services and accessories to our list of member benefits.

We’ve improved the lines of communication between NIADA leadership and staff and the staff and leadership of the state associations. We’ve established a permanent advocacy staff presence in Washington D.C. that we’ll build on over time.

There is no dust on the NIADA board or staff.

Now it’s time to brush the dust off the NIADA Convention and Expo and meet live and in person again.

You’re selling cars live and in person – it’s time for NIADA to do the same.

It’s time for NIADA members to come together to exchange ideas, swap stories and reconnect.

We’ve moved from Las Vegas in June to allow everyone time to be vaccinated. This year marks our 75th anniversary, and I can’t think of a better way to celebrate than by coming together at the NIADA Convention and Expo, Aug. 23-26 in San Antonio, Texas,
along the famed San Antonio River Walk.

At this year’s Convention, we’ll expand our education offerings. The sessions will be presented in tracks: Retail, Buy Here-Pay Here, Service, and a catch-all track.

Outcomes for each session will be clearly defined. And the sessions will be selected by dealers, for dealers.

We'll also add a new feature, a series of micro-sessions called The Service Bay.

The Service Bay will offer 20-minute, single-topic, single-speaker sessions focused on services and problem-solving solutions.

While every American should have the opportunity to be vaccinated against COVID-19 by the end of June, we’ll be following the most up-to-the-minute COVID protocols.

I hope you agree it’s time to get back to living again. I look forward to seeing all of you in San Antonio in August.
