| Miscellaneous |
| Q.
Can one of my employees take the education for me?
|
| A.
No. Only individuals shown on the renewal application can submit certificates for credit.
|
| Q.
What do I do if I misplace my certificate?
|
| A.
Call the OIADA office. Replacement certificates are $25 each. We void out the old certificate and notify DMV it has been voided.
|
| Q.
Do I have to notify DMV every time I get a certificate?
|
| A.
No. They only want to know about your education requirements at time of renewal.
|
| Online Education |
| Q.
My wife and I are both on the license. Can I do 5 hours and she do 10 hours?
|
| A.
Yes. You can both do hours and the total counts toward the 15 total hours required. However, you cannot both use the exact same hours for credits. If for example, you both did R&R for October 2002, only one person could use that credit. Same thing for live seminars. If you both attend a live seminar, only one seminar would count towards the 15 hour requirement.
|
| Q.
How much education do I need?
|
| A.
15 hours within your three year license period. You can do 10 the first year, 0 the second and 5 the third, if that is how you want to do it. It is very flexible. Try not to do it all the last year!
|
| Q.
I don't want to put my credit card on the internet. How do I pay for internet education?
|
| A.
It is FREE. We don't believe in putting credit cards on the net either, unless absolutely necessary. You don't need to with OIADA. Go ahead and do the reading, and certify the months you have read. During regular working hours you can call OIADA and give us your credit card over the phone if you need to order something. Or, you can send in a check. Your choice. Best of all, you can go ahead and do the education - It is free..
|
| Q.
How can I find out how many hours I have done?
|
| A.
Call the OIADA office. We track your hours until you need a certificate. We don't always print out a certificate every 5 hours. Sometimes dealers just get one 15 hour certificate for their renewal application. Let us know what you prefer.
|
| Q.
Can I get Pre-Licensing Education on the OIADA website?
|
| A.
No. OIADA does not recommend on-line Pre-Licensing education. A new dealer needs to be able to ask as many questions as possible about dealer requriements, licensing requirements and industry concerns when they are thinking of becoming vehicle dealers. That is not posible on-line. Pre-licensing not only tells a prospective dealer about the many rules and regulations affecting the industry, it also teaches them how to find the answers when the questions come up. The OIADA dealer education classes incorporate both continuing education for current dealers, and pre-licensing people in the same class. Prospective dealers not only hear the questions and answers from current dealers, but many times create a network with current dealers who have attended the class with them.

| Reading and Response |
| Q.
I do not read or write well. How do I take the tests?
|
| A.
This is actually quite simple. You can have somebody read the articles to you, and answer the questions verbally, having them mark down the repsonses, and fax them in. You can also go to a live class, where there is no written response asked for. Please contact an OIADA representative for details.
|
| Q.
How much is Continuing Education for members and non-members?

| A.

Continuing Education for all Oregon Dealers is Free, for internet, home study books and Squeaky Wheel Reading and Response program, live seminars, Education completed at conventions is included with registration fee, Title and Registration class for non-members is $75
|
| Seminars |
| Q.
I want to take a live seminar once in a while, but not always. Is that wise?
|
| A.
Yes. OIADA recommends taking a live seminar at least one time during the 3-year period of your license. Many of our dealers are in the habit of submitting the Reading and Response form from the magazine every month just as an additional benefit and method to be sure they have the needed education at the time of renewal with DMV. You will end up with more credits than you need, but you won't miss anything that way.
|
| Q.
I just need more information about the titling and registration paperwork. Is a regular 5 hour seminar good for that?
|
| A.
No. While you get a lot of information about why you should do certain forms, and how to protect yourself in the selling process, you should also attend a 'Title & Registration Seminar" built just for title clerks and dealers who process their own titles and registrations. Call the office for the next class. There is usually one at convention, too.
